transient maternal (2024)

Collaborative exhibition with B.G-Osborne at Eastern Edge Artist-Run-Centre from March 29 to May 11, 2024.

Buoyed by a t4t ethos of shared rural trans experiences, Daze Jefferies + B.G-Osborne’s collaborative practice turns to water as a counter-archive of kinship, loss, and re-emergence. Envisioned as an estuary – an interflowing coastal body where saltwater and freshwater meet – transient maternal: fathoms is a labour of love for rural foremothers. Reflecting on the loss of a mother at a young age as well as the longing for a trans mother figure, engaging in archival practices of regard, and working with materials both salvaged from and offered to the landwash, the artists consider how watery spaces of transition embody maternal connections across lifetimes. Beach washup, textiles, charcoal, field recordings, wax, mermaid’s purses, plastics, burnt wood, and poetry evoke t4t tenderness, rural inheritance, and the places where continuity and impermanence touch.
